Statistical Aspects of Cyber-Security

News reports frequently cover serious cyber-attacks in the UK and internationally. Defending corporate networks from malicious attack is a pressing and challenging concern. The increasing frequency and severity of cyber-attacks demonstrate that the existing set of defences (firewalls, signature-based intrusion, virus scanners) are not sufficient for the task.
Next generation cyber-defence tools will have a statistical nature, to match the complexities and uncertainties of the obtainable data. The purpose of this event is to bring together academic and industrial researchers, to discuss practical challenges, and explore methodological developments.
This event is co-organised by the General Applications Section of the Royal Statistical Society. We are grateful to the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research, University of Bristol, for generous sponsorship for this event.
