Congratulations to Gene Kopp, Heilbronn Fellow, who has accepted a visiting postdoctoral position at Purdue University from next Autumn and an assistant professor position at Louisiana State University starting in Autumn 2022.  Gene joined the Heilbronn Institute in October 2017, he received his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Michigan under the supervision of Jeffrey Lagarias, and won the SIAM Student Paper Prize in 2018.

Gene main research interest is in explicit class field theory and the Stark conjectures.  He has a wide variety of applied mathematical interests,  generally areas where he has found or encountered some application of number theory, including random matrix theory, secure multiparty computation, quantum information processing, and nonlinear dispersive PDEs.  One of Gene’s recent articles (with Edward Crane) has appeared in the London Mathematical Society Newsletter in January 2021 entitled ‘Rubel’s Problem: from Hayman’s List to the Chabauty Method‘.

We wish Gene every success in his new positions.
