Congratulations to Ed Crane on his promotion to Associate Professor. This excellent academic achievement reflects Ed’s leadership within the discipline and his contributions across the School of Mathematics and the Heilbronn Institute.
After receiving his PhD from Cambridge, and a brief period as a Junior Research Fellow at Oxford, Ed joined the Heilbronn Institute in 2005 as a Research Fellow. His current work is mostly in probability theory, though he has retained some interests in geometric function theory and complex analysis, which was his main research area for the first decade of his career. Now he is mainly interested in combinatorial probability, for example urn models, random walks, and dynamic random graphs. Ed is one of the organisers of the Probability, Analysis and Dynamics (PAD) conference, held at the University of Bristol once every 4 years with outstanding speakers including Hugo Duminil-Copin, Alessio Figalli and Martin Hairer, to name a few.
His article with Gene Kopp about their solution of an old open problem from Walter Hayman’s famous list of problems in function theory was published in the London Mathematical Society Newsletter in January 2021.
Congratulations to Ed on his very well-deserved promotion!
