The overall aim of the Summer Workshop is to give HIMR sponsored PhD students a better understanding of how advanced mathematical research is carried out and applied in modern government and industry settings.
A focussed in-person Workshop hosted by the School of Mathematics, University of Bristol over one week. This comprised a mix of example-based case studies, group exercises and presentation sessions, and featured several invited speakers from academia, industry and government agencies who use mathematics to investigate important real-world problems.

A series of talks on how mathematics is used outside academia. The three sessions in the morning had a strong quantum theme, but the afternoon session covered a wider set of topics. The recently published National Quantum Strategy and the ecosystem in the UK was discussed followed by a presentation from the National Cyber Security Centre on Post Quantum Cryptography. Afternoon talks were on how mathematics is used in Defence (DSTL), then in Industry (HP), and finally a session on the importance of fundamental mathematical research.

Self-contained, facilitated learning sessions on Knowledge Exchange. These sessions were given by professionals skilled in this discipline and were a mixture of classroom learning and group exercises.
