Congratulations to Ben Smith, Heilbronn Research Fellow in Manchester, who has been offered a postdoctoral position at the University of Lancaster. Ben will be working with Tony Nixon, and will be looking to connect rigidity theory with combinatorial algebraic geometry.
Following his PhD with Alex Fink at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) Ben joined the University of Manchester as a Heilbronn Fellow in 2019. His research interests are tropical geometry, matroid theory, commutative algebra and combinatorial algebraic geometry.
Ben’s latest paper with Michael Joswig ‘Convergent Hahn series and tropical geometry of higher rank’ has been published in the Journal of the London Mathematical Society, early this year. You can view a pdf here https://doi.org/10.1112/jlms.12716 [doi.org]
We wish Ben every success in his new position and future research.
