The winners of the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals for mathematics in the 2024 STEM for Britain awards were announced on Monday 4 March 2024 at a prize-giving ceremony in the Houses of Parliament, Westminster.

The three winners (left to right) – Daniel Gardham (Surrey, Gold), Katherine Benjamin (Oxford, Silver) and Francisco de Melo Virissimo (LSE, Bronze) – were picked from 20 selected finalists from a field of more than 100 applications within the mathematics category. Full details of the research presented in the final’s poster session can be found on the STEM for Britain Website.

The Heilbronn Institute, which provided support to the event and sponsored the mathematics Silver Medal, is delighted to be associated with STEM for Britain and offers its warmest congratulations to all 20 of the mathematics finalists and to all of the Award winners.

The overall aim of the STEM for Britain  competition is to encourage, support and promote Britain’s early career researchers. This annual competition is an important date in the parliamentary calendar because it gives MPs an opportunity to see the work of a wide range of the country’s best young researchers
