Congratulations to Ian Gallagher who has accepted a lectureship position at the University of Melbourne starting this Autumn.

Ian is a Heilbronn Research Fellow in Data Science based in Bristol, he joined the Heilbronn Institute in 2022 following his PhD in Statistics from the University of Bristol under the supervision of Patrick Rubin-Delanchy.   Ian’s recent research has focussed on analysis of dynamic networks using graph embeddings developing ideas from his PhD thesis published in NeurIPS 2021.  This paper has led to new applications in biostatistics with collaborations with Harvard University in the US and initial steps with Monash University in Australia.

Ian’s paper with Modell, Ceccherini, Rubin-Delanchy and Whiteley, entitled “Intensity Profile Projection: A Framework for Continuous-Time Representation Learning for Dynamic Networks” has been published in the Proceedings of the 37th Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS 2023).  This research has opened many new exciting applications in cybersecurity with the National Cyber Security Centre.

We wish Ian every success in his new position and future research!
