Congratulations to Jess Jay, Heilbronn Research Fellow in Bristol, who has accepted a Lectureship in Mathematics at Lancaster University starting this autumn.
Following her PhD from Bristol University under the supervision of Márton Balázs, Jess joined the Heilbronn Institute in Bristol in 2022. Jess is a probabilist and her main research is in interacting particle systems; these are continuous time Markov processes on discrete state spaces. Her recent paper ‘Combinatorial identities from an inhomogeneous Ising chain’ with Benjamin Lees studies a family of inhomogeneous Ising chains and their links to combinatorial identities. Jess has organised and co-organised many events within the University including ‘Underrepresented Genders in Mathematics: Opportunities for the Future’ which was held in November last year. Jess is also one of the organisers of the next ‘Probability, Analysis and Dynamics’ Conference (PAD 2025) which will be held here in Bristol in April 2025.
We wish Jess every success in her new position and future research!
