The Heilbronn Institute is delighted to be supporting a visit by Professor Glenn Stevens (Boston) under the International Visitors Scheme. Professor Stevens will give a talk on 13 February 2025 on Mathematics outreach programme (PROMYS) for young scientists. We are also delighted to be supporting a small number of participants at PROMYS Europe which is led by Professor Glenn Stevens and organised by the Clay Mathematics Institute together with Wadham College and the Mathematical Institute at Oxford.

The Programme in Mathematics for Young Scientists (PROMYS): Past, Present, and Future
Speaker: Glenn Stevens (Boston)
For almost four decades, PROMYS has been synonymous with deep exploratory mathematical learning for talented secondary school students and their teachers. In this presentation we will discuss the history of PROMYS and its underlying principles as well as strategies for developing mathematical habits of mind that encourage creativity and innovation. We will also share ideas for new outreach efforts, currently in development, designed to serve local students from underserved populations in the Boston area.
About the speaker: Glenn Stevens is the founder and Director of PROMYS Europe. He has been Director of PROMYS at Boston University since he co-founded the program in 1989. He is Professor of Mathematics at Boston University where he has taught and conducted research since 1984. Glenn Stevens earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Harvard University in 1981. His research specialties are Number Theory, Automorphic Forms, and Arithmetic Geometry.
