Supported by the Heilbronn Institute Small Grants Scheme
This event will include a two-day workshop on the mathematical modelling and analysis of thin film flows, tailored for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. This will be followed by a three-day international colloquium.
The workshop will provide an introduction to the fundamental mathematical tools used in the design of simplified liquid film models, the linear and nonlinear stability analysis of steady-state solutions, and the study of complex dynamical features such as bifurcations and travelling-wave solutions. The informal and dynamic format of the workshop will encourage young mathematicians to engage with the speakers and industry representatives. In addition, a poster session will foster interaction among students and offer them the opportunity to showcase their research projects.
The colloquium will highlight recent progress in the study of liquid film dynamics, with particular emphasis on flows under long-wave conditions and at low to moderate Reynolds numbers. By addressing both fundamental and applied perspectives, the event will gather a broad range of expertise, creating connections between mathematicians, experimentalists, numerical scientists, and industrial experts.
